The PRINCE2 Phases of a Project

PRINCE2 Phases of a Project

Whether you are new to project management or are a seasoned professional, you will find that the PRINCE2 phases of a project are easy to learn and apply to your own project. Learn how to start, manage, and finish a project with these simple steps.

Initiating a project

During the initiation phase of a project, there are several tasks to complete. First, the project manager will need to request project board approval. After that, he will need to assemble a team to execute the requisite tasks. In a nutshell, the initiation phase of a project is all about product planning. This is a fancy term for the process of creating a product blueprint. Once that is done, the project manager can then proceed to the real fun part – delivering the product. A product blueprint can be viewed as a hierarchical chart of the product components. The product may be a single product, a suite of products, or a whole gamut of products.

The PRINCE2 Project Plan is the product of choice, especially when the project is new and young. The Project Plan uses the PRINCE2 product-based planning technique to produce a product blueprint. It is a slick piece of paper. It is a big deal for a reason. Having a document of this size in your arsenal is a good thing, especially when the project is brand new and you don’t want to scrimp on the quality of the end product.

The PRINCE2 project plan may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to project management, but it is an excellent way to streamline the project’s process. For instance, the initiation phase may have a slew of product-related tasks that can be broken up into more manageable segments. It also makes it easier to track the progress of the project’s individual tasks. In addition, the product plan encapsulates a set of quality criteria that is not available to individual teams, and provides an easy way to manage the project as a whole. Lastly, the product plan encapsulates essentially all the project’s major components, and serves as a central repository of project-related information, such as project budgets, requisitions, and other project-related documents. The product plan may not be the best thing to do, but it is certainly the most effective way to handle a project’s ad hoc tasks. A good product plan will also reduce the risk of a project’s failure.

The PRINCE2 e-book may not be the most expensive to purchase, but it is certainly the most cost effective. It also does a remarkably good job of delivering the requisite content to the project’s intended audience. As such, it is a good choice for those whose budgets are a bit tighter than those who may have been dragged kicking and screaming into a project. The e-book also features a handy list of recommended reading material, which can be a lifesaver when your employees’ schedules are already packed. As a bonus, the e-book also features an interactive timeline that will allow you to easily track the project’s progress and stay on top of the various projects you are working on.

Controlling a project

During a PRINCE2 project, there are different phases that are required to be followed. They include initiation, risk management, quality control, progress, and close-out. They provide a framework for completing a project on time and on budget. It also helps improve resource management and business risk management. The project phases allow teams to evaluate the project’s status. They include tasks that should be done, resources that are required, and deadlines. It also requires that the team maintain a high level of quality.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with initiation is important in that it involves creating the project’s plan. It also includes the roles of the different members. The project manager, team manager, and supplier are also assigned roles. It is important for each member of the team to have the proper authority. The team should also have independence and should be focused on meeting the project requirements.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with risk management is necessary for mitigating the risks of the project. The project manager must identify project risks and develop risk management strategies. These strategies can be customized based on the size and type of the project. The plan that is created should be detailed and include the costs of the project. It should also explain the benefits of the project. This plan will also include the scope of the project.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with progress is important for monitoring the project. The project manager should use KPIs (key performance indicators) to track the performance of the project. These KPIs should be used to measure the tolerances of the project and the authority delegated to the team. The project manager should review the project regularly to assess its progress and make adjustments as necessary. The project manager should also review the project at the end of each stage to record lessons learned.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with quality control is also important. This phase is responsible for ensuring that the project’s final deliverables are of the highest quality. The quality register will ensure that the project’s final product meets the team’s high standards. It will also help the team identify and prevent repeated mistakes. The quality register will also provide a baseline for the quality control of the project. The quality register will also include the quality requirements for the deliverables.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with close-out is also important. The project manager will have to follow up on delays and errors in order to make the project successful. This phase is also important in that it allows the team to record lessons learned and improve the project.

The PRINCE2 phase that deals with the quality of the project’s end product is important for delivering value to the stakeholder. The quality register is a good way to ensure that the project’s final product meets the requirements of the customer.

Timescales

Depending on the size of your project, you may require a number of PRINCE2 phases. Each phase is designed to be individually planned and carefully controlled. The goal of PRINCE2 is to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and that quality is maintained.

Each phase of a PRINCE2 project contains controls for complexity, scope, and risk. Each phase also includes a stage plan. This plan outlines the timescales and resources required for the next PRINCE2 project stage.

In addition, each phase is tailored to fit the environment of the project. This helps ensure that the project meets the needs of all stakeholders. It also helps team members to communicate more efficiently. Each phase is also carefully monitored.

PRINCE2 projects have a set of seven principles, which need to be adhered to. These principles are designed to ensure that a project’s deliverables are of high quality and meet the expectations of the project’s end users. It also helps to ensure that project managers can effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.

Each phase of a PRINCE2 project is designed to meet the needs of the end user. This is achieved through a product-based planning approach. This allows the project team to plan and complete work for the agreed upon products. It also helps to ensure that the project is viable.

A PRINCE2 project has a project board that reviews the project plan, determines the scope of the project, and makes high level decisions. The board also evaluates the project’s risk, makes sure that it meets business needs, and tries to avoid scope creep. This is done by determining what risks are inherent in the project, and how the project can mitigate them.

All project stakeholders need to be informed about the project’s scope. This should be clearly defined in the project plan. In addition, all project stakeholders should be involved in the project’s planning process. This helps to ensure that each team member knows what role they are playing in the project and how they can contribute to the success of the project.

A project manager must be responsible for a project’s daily activities, including assigning tasks and ensuring that projects are completed within a budget. The project manager must also consider the return on investment. In addition, the project manager must manage risks. Using KPIs to measure performance is important. The project manager should also ensure that project deliverables are high quality and that there is no scope creep.

Throughout the project, lessons are learned from previous projects. These lessons are then used to improve project processes. The lessons are recorded in the Lessons Log and the Lessons Report. These records are useful in reporting to the project board.

PRINCE2 projects use a rolling wave approach to planning. This allows for improved resource management and focus. Each stage is designed to be closely monitored, ensuring that the project is managed at a high level of quality. This helps to ensure that projects can be completed within a specified time frame and that the project delivers quality products that meet customer expectations.

Project Management on the PRINCE2 Foundation Wiki

PRINCE2 Foundation Wiki

The PRINCE2 Foundation Wiki is a useful resource for people interested in project management. It provides information about the framework and its processes. It also provides information about alternative approaches to project management. This article will discuss some of them. Among them is the Agile project management framework. This article also includes information about PRINCE2 certification and its alternatives.

Project management framework

The Project management framework on the PRINCE2 Foundation Wiki describes a process that is used to manage a project. The framework can be modified to fit a variety of environments. For example, a project may require a different methodology for different industries than that of a traditional corporation. Projects that follow a flexible methodology tend to perform better than projects that are rigidly adhered to.

PRINCE2 is an internationally-recognized, process-based approach to project management. It provides the basic steps to effectively manage a project and clearly defines each member’s normal responsibilities. The method is flexible and can be used for small and large projects. The PRINCE2 Wiki provides a forum for members to discuss the various aspects of the methodology.

Although PRINCE2 is a very powerful and flexible project management framework, it does have its limitations. It may not be appropriate for a small project, and continuous logging and documentation can take up a significant amount of time. Furthermore, it may not be balanced with a project’s focus. Additionally, it may not be practical for a project with a small team of stakeholders.

Process-based approach

The process-based approach in PRINCE2 is a structured way to plan a project. The project is divided into individual work phases and periodic reviews. Each phase is outlined with defined roles and responsibilities for everyone involved. In addition, PRINCE2 outlines how to manage project risks.

PRINCE2 is a project management method developed by the UK government. The methodology is based on practical experience from professionals and is suitable for any size and type of project. The methodology started in the late 1980s as a way to organize government IT projects, and was updated in 1996 for use by 150 public and private organizations.

The methodology is based on seven processes that help project managers manage projects. Each process has a defined role in directing, managing and delivering the project. The foundation of each process is a Project Board, which is responsible for authorizing project stages. The Project Board oversees the project through the management by exception process.

Agile project management

Agile project management is a key part of the PRINCE2 methodology. Agile methodology refers to the methodology used to create and deliver software projects. It uses terms such as releases and iterations. It also suggests using fixed time and cost for a project. Agile projects can also swap features as they progress.

Agile project management is a collaborative approach to software development. It breaks down the process into small, manageable sections called iterations. The teams involved in Agile projects should have representatives of all project stakeholders. They should be able to collaborate effectively to create the best product possible. Each iteration is evaluated by stakeholders and is based on what was learned in the previous iteration.

The PRINCE2 method is a well-established and widely used project management methodology. It is based on the experiences of many professionals and is adaptable to different types of projects. It can be applied to any type of project, from small to large, and is widely used in the UK public and private sectors. The PRINCE2 framework breaks a project into manageable stages, making it easier to monitor and track progress, as well as identify and fix risks early in the project.

Alternative to PRINCE2 certification

PRINCE2 certification is a valuable asset in the project management world. The certification ensures that you have the requisite knowledge and skills to lead a successful project. The PRINCE2 methodology is based on clear, proven templates and processes. It also provides a systematic approach to managing projects. The certification is issued by the APMG in the UK.

The PRINCE2 Foundation certification is not expensive. You can earn it online, and there are no prerequisites for the exams. The exam is a closed-book examination with 75 multiple-choice questions and lasts for 60 minutes. The passing mark for the exam is 50%. Once you have achieved the PRINCE2 Foundation, you’ll be able to use the certification for life. The certification is designed for project managers who have extensive experience in a PRINCE2 environment and have extensive knowledge of the framework’s themes and elements.

Another option for PRINCE2 certification is the PMP certification. While both methodologies are based on process-based methodologies, PMP focuses on specific knowledge and skills. The PMP exam evaluates your experience with a variety of project management techniques and skills. It evaluates your knowledge and expertise in risk identification, change management, materials management, and quality management.

PRINCE2 Vs PRINCE2 Agile

When you’re comparing PRINCE2 to PRINCE2 Agile, it’s helpful to understand the main differences between the two frameworks. After all, they are both used for project management, but they are not the same. If you’re looking for a framework to help you deliver a product, it’s important to choose the right one for your project.

Differences between PRINCE2 and PRINCE2 Agile

While both methodologies can be effective, there are some differences between them. In particular, the former focuses on high-level project management, while the latter is more focused on team dynamics and self-organization. These differences are key when considering the two methodologies, and can make the latter more effective in certain situations. Here are a few examples of how they differ. You might also be surprised to learn that both methodologies have their benefits.

While PRINCE2 focuses on customer-centricity, Agile emphasizes a focus on meeting business needs. Agile approaches are flexible, which means they can be implemented by teams and suppliers who may not be involved in a project. These methodologies help organizations achieve their goals by ensuring that they can easily adapt to changing requirements. This is important for businesses that cannot afford to stand still.

PRINCE2 agile are very similar in terms of goals and processes, but they do differ in several ways. Agile is designed to be more responsive to unexpected changes and is often used for projects that require rapid changes. The two methodologies are often used in tandem, but their differences are still important to understand.

While PRINCE2 is a world-standard project management methodology, Agile can be used in tandem with it. PRINCE2 emphasizes the business justification of projects and strategic levels of project management, while Agile emphasizes delivering value quickly, with the aim of continuously reassessing targets and outcomes. There are some key differences between PRINCE2, and you should choose the one that best fits your needs.

Agile emphasizes collaboration between team members and suppliers. It also requires collaboration among teammates and the customer. In addition, it enables agile projects to respond more quickly to customer requirements. Agile is a better approach if you’re looking to create a more flexible and responsive business model.

The PRINCE2 body of knowledge equips credential holders with the tools necessary to assess a project. It considers user requirements and project risks. It also uses standard procedures to eliminate confusion during the project execution phase.

Key differences between the two frameworks

Although both PRINCE2 agile are highly successful methodologies, there are a few key differences between the two methods. PRINCE2 was designed as a waterfall methodology, using documentation and approval processes to define and plan a project. However, PRINCE2 Agile promotes collaboration and communication, which is essential for the success of any project. It also encourages the use of bullet points, which provide just as much clarity as a formal document.

The biggest difference between the two methodologies is the way they approach the planning stage. PRINCE2 prioritizes the process of planning and analyzing the goals of the project. This process also involves identifying future risks. While Agile focuses on the final product, PRINCE2 focuses more on the process of delivering the product and is a great choice for fast change management and competitive industries.

PRINCE2 Agile is a modernization of the original PRINCE2 methodology. The approach is based on a more agile approach and was created in response to feedback from users. It emphasizes working on small parts of a project instead of managing everything at once. Agile also utilizes shorter-term goals, which makes it more flexible.

PRINCE2 is a globally recognized project management methodology. It is highly customizable and can be adapted to a wide variety of projects. Its seven principles focus on a variety of themes, including planning, risk, quality, and business cases. It also identifies decision-makers and sets out project stages.

PRINCE2 Agile focuses on collaboration between team members and suppliers. It enables team members to collaborate with customers to develop and deliver a finished product. Agile uses a concept of time-boxes and sprint backlogs. It requires teams to set goals and get feedback on each sprint. It is important to note that each approach has its advantages and disadvantages. The best way to choose the right method depends on your particular situation and your objectives.

PRINCE2 Agile is a collection of guidelines for tailoring PRINCE2 for Agile environments. The methodology was created by incorporating agile principles into the existing PRINCE2 framework. It was designed for individuals or organizations that already use PRINCE2 for project management. Its governance and project management elements are similar to those of PRINCE2.

The PRINCE2 Highlight Report and How to Make It Executive Friendly

PRINCE2 Highlight Report

The PRINCE2 Highlight Report is a form used to report the progress of a project to the Project Board. It analyses extra information gathered during project stages and identifies lessons learned. It is based on the Product-Based approach in the management of projects. It includes a list of the products in the current stage, issues, risks, and lessons learned.

Managing by stages

Managing by stages is an important part of PRINCE2 project management. It focuses on the way a project is planned and managed. It identifies the key decision points at each stage. These decision points must be addressed before the project is able to move forward.

PRINCE2 is based on the principle of breaking large tasks down into smaller, manageable chunks. Each stage is managed, monitored and controlled according to a methodology known as PRINCE2. PRINCE2 projects are managed by stages, separated by Decision Points and the Project Board.

Managing by stages is a key aspect of PRINCE2. The project manager should produce a Highlight Report for the Project Board on each stage to provide information about progress. These reports should be brief and easy to understand. The team manager may want to increase the frequency of these reports.

Including corrective actions in the report

The process of corrective action involves the solution of problems that have occurred. It involves the definition of the problem, the determination of its cause, and the steps needed to mitigate its immediate symptoms. This process should be managed to completion, with an effective debrief and lessons learned at the end. Corrective actions can be created using templates that make the process easy and efficient.

The corrective action plan must specify targeted timeframes for resolving any deficiencies. In some cases, it may also include special work that needs to be done to meet regulatory requirements. In any case, the corrective action plan should be based on the premise that it can only solve the problem if it can be rationally and within the project tolerance.

Including risk and issue registers in the report

The Risk & Issue Register is an important component of a project management process. It helps project managers plan for changes and to communicate these changes to the customer. Risks are identified and reported, and they are ranked by likelihood of occurrence, severity, and impact. Issues are events that happen during the course of a project, and they require management action. A project manager must consider the severity and impact of each issue and update the Risk & Issue Register as necessary.

Issues are related to change requests or other risks that affect the project. As a PRINCE2 project manager, you should be aware of the risks or issues that may affect your project. If you find an issue that is not within your project’s tolerance, you can bring it to the project board for discussion. If the issue or risk exceeds the project’s tolerance level, you should raise an Exception Report.

Making the report “executive friendly”

PRINCE2 Highlight Reports are an excellent way to provide a brief overview of a project’s progress and can be very useful to executive audiences. Most organizations expect all projects to include one, and most executives find these reports useful. Fortunately, there are ways to make the PRINCE2 Highlight Reports executive friendly without disrupting the project’s delivery.

For instance, when writing a Highlight Report, don’t include too many details unless it’s absolutely necessary. For instance, it’s not necessary to list every single decision made by project staff. Instead, focus on the highlights and key points that have been reached.

PRINCE2 Project Management Explained – Introduction

Welcome to the first of four videos in the series PRINCE2 project management explained.  This series is designed to give you a clear understanding of what PRINCE2 is all about.

PRINCE2 stands for PRojects In Controlled Environments. It’s a project management framework that enables an organization to plan, manage and control a project. A project is a means by which an organization introduces change. Organizations that don’t change are likely to stagnate or die. Projects deliver products.

For example, a new computer system which the organization will then use to achieve changes or outcomes. For example, more efficient working practices. These outcomes, in turn, can be measured in the form of benefits. The total benefits that can be realized from a project must be more than the costs of the project and the costs of operating the project products. Otherwise, the project will not deliver a return on investment.

PRINCE2 is a generic project management framework, which means it’s designed to be suitable for any project in any industry. It’s based upon the most up-to-date, best practices in project management. This makes it a very popular choice amongst organizations around the world.

PRINCE2 guides you through the whole project lifecycle and can be adapted to meet the particular needs of your project environment. It is composed of four integrated elements. They are principles, themes, processes and tailoring to the project environment.

Everything in PRINCE2 is based upon these principles. They are the foundations of the framework. The themes concern aspects of project management that must be continuously addressed throughout the project.

The processes describe who is responsible for performing the themes at different points in the project.

Finally, every project is different, so the themes and processes must be tailored to suit the needs of the environment. In the following videos, we will look at each of these integrated elements in turn, starting with the PRINCE2 principles.

Thе project delivery approach іѕ dіvіdеd into ѕеvеn mаnаgеmеnt thеmеѕ. Thеѕе thеmеѕ run rіght thrоugh the рrоjесt, and аrе applicable аt all stages. Thе subject mаttеr of each theme must bе асtіvеlу controlled іf thе project іѕ tо bе ѕuссеѕѕfullу delivered. The seven thеmеѕ аrе:
1) Buѕіnеѕѕ case: gіvеs justification for thе рrоjесt аnd, therefore, drives thе еntіrе рrоjесt.
2) Orgаnіzаtіоn: hоw a project is оrgаnіzеd, іnсludіng іntеrеѕt grоuрѕ, stakeholders аnd mаnаgеmеnt.
3) Quаlіtу: fосuѕеѕ on delivering desired outcomes thаt are “fit fоr рurроѕе”.
4) Plаnѕ: how, whеn and bу whom рrоjесt products and outcomes wіll bе dеlіvеrеd; іnсludеѕ соmmunісаtіоnѕ and controls.
5) Risks: thrеаtѕ or opportunities thаt muѕt bе соntrоllеd to increase thе potential fоr a successful оutсоmе.
6) Chаngеѕ: management аnd соntrоl of unеxресtеd іѕѕuеѕ аnd changes thаt emerge durіng рrоjесt dеlіvеrу.
7) Prоgrеѕѕ: mоnіtоrіng аrrаngеmеntѕ tо trасk progress against рlаnѕ bу рrоасtіvеlу mаnаgіng potential vаrіаtіоnѕ.
Thе above ѕеvеn thеmеѕ run through and are rеlеvаnt to еіght рrосеѕѕеѕ.

Now, the Eіght Processes

1) Stаrtіng uр a project: dеvеlоріng a brief for whаt thе рrоjесt іѕ designed to dо аnd identifying a tеаm tо deliver it.
2) Plаnnіng a рrоjесt: аnаlуzіng whаt іѕ gоіng tо bе dеlіvеrеd (products) аnd planning асtіvіtіеѕ to соmрlеtе dеlіvеrу.
3) Initiating a project: brіngіng together thе fіrѕt twо ѕtаgеѕ tо mаkе the buѕіnеѕѕ саѕе and getting аuthоrіtу tо рrосееd.
4) Dіrесtіng a project: designing and іmрlеmеntіng project controls via a Prоjесt Board, fоr еxаmрlе whеn аnd hоw ѕtаgе рlаnѕ оr рrоjесt сlоѕе down wіll bе аuthоrіzеd.
5) Cоntrоllіng a ѕtаgе: brеаkіng dоwn a рrоjесt into stages аnd work packages; mаnаgіng issues аnd reporting on рrоgrеѕѕ.
6) Mаnаgіng рrоduсt delivery: designing and іmрlеmеntіng рrосеѕѕеѕ fоr accepting, dеvеlоріng аnd delivering wоrk packages.
7) Mаnаgіng ѕtаgе bоundаrіеѕ: managing the trаnѕіtіоn frоm оnе stage tо the next аnd end ѕtаgе reporting.
8) Closing a project: рrоjесt shutdown and evaluation.

So, PRINCE2 Delivers Perfect Projects?

So, merely using PRINCE2 саn dеlіvеr реrfесt projects? Experience tеllѕ uѕ thаt simply adopting a methodology does nоt guаrаntее a grеаt рrоjесt. Thеrе аrе ѕtіll lots of reasons whу thіngѕ can – and often do – go wrоng. Here are a fеw оf them:
— Thеrе іѕ a temptation to gо ѕtrаіght into things so the PRINCE2 buѕіnеѕѕ саѕе gets forgotten. So, іnѕtеаd оf hаvіng a nісе PRINCE2 buѕіnеѕѕ саѕе, thе start-up phase is ruѕhеd, оr соmрlеtеlу іgnоrеd аnd thе оrgаnіzаtіоn goes ѕtrаіght іntо thе рrоjесt initiation ѕtаgе.
— Prоjесtѕ аrе оftеn bаdlу planned ѕо they go оff track, оvеr ѕреnd, оr аrе unаblе tо deliver thе intended оutсоmеѕ.
— Orgаnіzіng a рrоjесt using the PRINCE2 рrоjесt methodology requires a ѕtrоng Prоjесt Bоаrd. However, some Project Bоаrdѕ аrе nоt ѕtrоng and dо not funсtіоn well. They mау іgnоrе іѕѕuеѕ, оr аvоіd making kеу dесіѕіоnѕ thеу аrе thеrе tо mаkе аnd, therefore, the project goes off the rails.
— Inѕtеаd оf having сlеаrly defined stages, many рrоjесtѕ are ѕеt up wіth tоо few ѕtаgеѕ, ѕо іt bесоmеѕ difficult tо monitor оr rеvіеw рrоgrеѕѕ, which mеаnѕ thе рrоjесt can еаѕіlу get derailed.
— Thе rіght ѕkіllѕ аrе nоt іdеntіfіеd to ensure thе рrоjесt gоеѕ ѕmооthlу, оr thеrе іѕ nо mаnаgеmеnt commitment, ѕо thе project juѕt flоundеrѕ оr suffers from a lасk of ѕuffісіеnt resources.
Thеrе аrе literally hundrеdѕ of rеаѕоnѕ whу any particular рrоjесt mіght fаіl, but, on bаlаnсе, a рrоjесt іѕ lеѕѕ lіkеlу tо fаіl іf еvеrуоnе іѕ working tо a соmmоn mеthоdоlоgу and guiding principles. Hence, the development of  PRINCE2.

Evеrу project needs a ѕоund mеthоdоlоgу, whеthеr іtѕ PRINCE2, as set оut in thе PRINCE2 books, оr аnоthеr methodology, уоu wіll hаvе tо dесіdе for yourself. That said, іt іѕ рrоbаblу unwise tо ignore PRINCE2. A working knowledge оf thе PRINCE2 рrоjесt methodology is surely bе a gооd thіng.

How to Become a PRINCE2 Certified Trainer

Becoming an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer and being sponsored by an Accredited Training Organization means that you can provide accredited PRINCE2 training. The market for PRINCE2 training courses is large and has also seen some impressive international growth. Tens of thousands of candidates around the world take the PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner exams each year, and large numbers of them prepare for those exams by completing PRINCE2 courses. The PRINCE2 project management method is suitable for running any project in any industry, thereby, making it a popular choice for a very wide range of organizations.

PRINCE2 Trainer Requirements

If you are aiming to qualify as an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer, you must meet the following requirements:

– A score of at least 66% in the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam
– At least 2 years’ experience of delivering training courses
– At least 2 years’ experience of project management (or having delivered at least 2 full PRINCE2 Foundation & Practitioner courses under the guidance of an existing Approved PRINCE2 Trainer)
– You also need to find an Accredited Training Organization (ATO) willing to sponsor you becoming an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer.

Before agreeing to sponsorship, the ATO will likely want to prove that you meet the above requirements. It is, therefore, a good idea to have your PRINCE2 Practitioner candidate number on hand, and mention your certification plans to current or former colleagues who could provide references, if required.

Training the PRINCE2 Trainer

After an ATO has agreed to sponsor you, you will complete a trainer sponsorship program (often called ‘PRINCE2 Train the Trainer’), which aims to help you develop and refine your PRINCE2 training skills. The program will likely include: giving presentations to existing trainers; conducting training sessions for delegates; familiarizing yourself with course materials and any relevant computer software required to deliver a PRINCE2 course; discussions with existing trainers concerning how to improve your training style, and so on. Such activities are designed to prepare you for a formal assessment, during which you will be required to demonstrate that you possess the ability to conduct successful PRINCE2 courses. As part of the formal assessment, you will be observed training delegates and will also be interviewed about your knowledge of the PRINCE2 methodology. The assessor will present his/her findings to you, and then produce a written report. Based upon your performance, the assessor will decide whether or not to recommend you being awarded Approved PRINCE2 Trainer certification.

Should you pass the assessment, you will be certified as an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer for 3 years, subject to yearly monitoring. Before the end of the certification period, you will be re-assessed in order to check whether or not you continue to conform to the standards expected of an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer. In addition, 3-5 years after you have passed the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam (and every 3-5 years subsequently), you will need to prove that your PRINCE2 knowledge is up-to-date by passing the PRINCE2 Re-registration exam with a score of at least 66%.

Enjoy Your PRINCE2 Training Career

While the role of an Approved PRINCE2 Trainer can be challenging, it also has the potential to be highly enjoyable and diverse. For example, you may have the opportunity to train in numerous locations, perhaps delivering PRINCE2 courses in Europe, Asia, Africa, or other regions. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that your training equips people with a leading method of managing projects, which is designed to help organisations improve their ability to deliver successful projects on time, on budget, and on schedule in today’s competitive business world.

Process Management (Project Management)

Process management in civil engineering and project management is the management of “systematic series of activities directed towards causing an end result such that one or more inputs will be acted upon to create one or more outputs.”

Process management offers project organizations a means of applying the same quality improvement and defect reduction techniques used in business and manufacturing processes by taking a process view of project activity; modeling discrete activities and high-level processes.

The term process management usually refers to the management of engineering processes and project management processes where a process is a collection of related, structured tasks that produce a specific service or product to address a certain goal for a particular actor or set of actors.

Processes can be executed with procedures. They can be described as a sequence of steps that can execute a process and their value lies in that they are an accepted method of accomplishing a consistent performance or results.

Process management provides engineering and project managers with a means of systemically thinking of project organizations, Semantics concepts and logical frameworks that allow project activities to be planned, executed, analyzed and facilitate learning.

In order for process management as defined to deliver consistent performance, it requires definition, elimination of non-Value added activities, continuous improvement, project stakeholder focus and team based approach. Mitchell (2016) notes that managing processes across divisional and organizational boundaries requires a more flexible management strategy as well as close cooperation among managers in diverse functional and operational units to ensure that the process flow is not interrupted by conflicts over lines of authority.

Process management originated as part of the manufacturing-based application of statistical quality control movement in the late 1920s and early 1930s. What is relatively new, however, is the transition of process management methods from a manufacturing environment to a total company orientation and project management.

Process management in the context of project management or engineering represents a change from the traditional concept of organizational authority using hierarchies and organizational structure to one requiring flexibility to ensure efficient process workflows. Mitchell (2016) notes that managing processes across divisional and organizational boundaries requires a more flexible management strategy as well as close cooperation among managers in diverse functional and operational units to ensure that the process flow is not interrupted by conflicts over lines of authority.

Cooper, et. al. note that manufacturing has been “a constant reference point and a source of innovation in construction”. There is a new phenomenon occurring within the construction sector that is based upon the development and use of fundamental core management processes to improve the efficiency of the industry.

In the field of process management the notion of process, according to Mitchell (2016), can be characterized by:

These concepts provides management with the following:

Process management in this context requires engineering knowledge, management activities and skill sets whereas business processes or manufacturing processes require operations management activities, and skill sets.

Process models are `an effective way to show how a process works’. Project Management process modeling tools provide managers and engineering professionals with the ability to model their processes, implement and execute those models, and refine the models based on actual performance. The result is that business process modeling tools can provide transparency into project management processes, as well as the centralization of project organization process models and execution metrics.
A number of modelling/systems analysis techniques exist such as data flow diagrams (DFD), HIPO model (hierarchy + input-process-output), data modeling and IDEF0 (integration definition language 0 for function modelling) process modelling technique.

A process activity that is concurrent or simultaneously executing can be termed a thread.

ISO 9000 promotes the process approach to managing an organization.

…promotes the adoption of a process approach when developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of a quality management system, to enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements.
